JEA names Keller the Administrator of the Year

Written by Evan Blackwell, CJE

The Journalism Education Association (JEA) announced today that Samuel “Butch” Keller, the Upper School division head of The Harker School in San Jose, California, has been selected as the organization’s Administrator of the Year.

JEA annually presents its award to administrators who show exceptional support of scholastic journalism.

Keller has been at The Harker School since 2007. Prior to that, he was in a similar administrative position at The Steward School in Richmond, Virginia.

The Harker School’s Ellen Austin, MJE, director of the journalism program, nominated Keller for the honor, citing his regular meetings with student media editors and support of a mandatory all-school assembly with representatives from the Student Press Law Center.

Keller will be among those JEA award winners honored on Nov. 12 at the JEA/NSPA Fall National High School Journalism Convention in Indianapolis.
