JEA names winners of 2014 Lifetime Achievement Awards

Overland Park, Kan. (Aug. 26, 2014) – A former Walsworth Yearbooks employee, and two former yearbook advisers from Walsworth customer schools in Nebraska – all recently retired – were among those named as Lifetime Achievement Award winners on Tuesday by the Journalism Education Association (JEA).

David Massy, CJE, most recently served as marketing services supervisor for Walsworth before retiring in May, and worked in scholastic journalism for more than 35 years. Massy joined Walsworth in 1989, and was instrumental in the development of a wide variety of educational projects over the years. Prior to joining Walsworth, he was a high school adviser at schools in Indiana and Iowa.

Bob Bair, MJE, retired in May after 40 years of service to Blair High School in Blair, Neb., where he was the yearbook adviser and journalism teacher. Bair’s students have been award winners, and he has served the Nebraska High School Press Association and on the national JEA board, including four years as vice president.

Diane Schutt retired in May from Fairbury High School in Fairbury, Neb., where she taught and advised since 1979. Schutt was named a Distinguished Adviser by the Nebraska High School Press Association three times – 1989, 2002 and 2007 – and she served as the organization’s treasurer for more than 20 years.

• Barbara McLachlan, CJE, Durango, Colo.
• Jeff Nardone, formerly of Grosse Point Park, Mich.
• Carol S. Neal, Pompano Beach, Fla.
• Diane E. Schutt, Fairbury, Neb.
• Ann Visser, MJE, Pella, Iowa

The award recipients will be recognized Nov. 8 at the JEA/NSPA Fall National High School Journalism Convention in Washington, D.C.
