Walsworth Yearbooks schools win 12 Sweepstakes prizes in 2019 Yearbook Excellence Contest

Students from Walsworth Yearbooks schools won 12 of the 36 Sweepstakes prizes in the 2019 Yearbook Excellence Contest, when the results of the annual contest were announced earlier this month by Quill and Scroll.

Sweepstakes winners

The yearbook staff from Calvary Day School in Savannah, Georgia, was the biggest winner with six Sweepstakes winners in Class B, which is for schools with 750 or fewer students. The Calvary Day Sweepstakes prizes included: Elliot Scarbrough for Academics; Chelsea Daniels for Clubs or Organizations; Cody Carswell for Headlines; Emma Hearn for Index, Addison Scarbrough for Personality Profile and Avery Householder for Theme Development.

In the Class A category, for schools with more than 750 students, McKinney High School in McKinney, Texas, had three Sweepstakes winners, including Elizabeth Chan for Clubs/Orgs Photo; Abney Garcia for Feature Photo; and Lexi Harris for Headlines.

Other Sweepstakes winners from Walsworth came in Class A, with Madison Kunze (Advertising) and Caitlyn Krebs (Personality Profile) of Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park, Kansas, both taking the top prize; and Ethan Schreiber from Shawnee Mission Northwest High School in Shawnee, Kansas, winning for Graphic Design.

Blue and Gold Awards

Quill and Scroll awarded its Blue and Gold Awards to the yearbook staffs that showed the best overall performance in the contest and Walsworth schools again showed well.

In Class A, the McKinney High School staff was honored for Staff Excellence and Comprehensive Visuals. The staff from Shawnee Mission Northwest was honored for Comprehensive Writing.

In Class B, the Calvary Day staff took the Blue and Gold honor for Staff Excellence and Comprehensive Writing

Gold Key winners

In addition to the Sweepstakes winners, nine schools whose 2019 yearbooks were printed by Walsworth Yearbooks had National Gold Key winners in this year’s contest, including:

  • Blue Valley Northwest High School, Overland Park, Kansas
  • Calvary Day School, Savannah, Georgia
  • El Camino Real Charter High School, Woodland Hills, California
  • Gulliver Preparatory School, Miami, Florida
  • Haltom High School, Haltom City, Texas
  • McKinney High School, McKinney, Texas
  • Northwest High School, Jackson, Michigan
  • Shawnee Mission Northwest High School, Shawnee, Kansas
  • Tigard High School, Tigard, Oregon

Each year, staff members of yearbooks are invited to participate in the Yearbook Excellence Contest and compete in 18 categories. Winners receive the Quill and Scroll National Gold Key award and, when seniors, become eligible to apply for one of the Edward J. Nell Memorial or George and Ophelia Gallup scholarships.
