"Who am I?

I arrive at parking spot 124 at 7 a.m., half an hour before the first bell rings. The sun peaks over the clouds, reminding me how it felt being first in line at Maplewood Bagels on the way to Carlin Park over summer.

A new beginning for me, a new beginning for all of us.

At the metal detectors, I am the first to smile at Mrs. Megan Lee as I join my classmates at the gym entrance, and I am the first to show the nervous freshmen where Mrs. Jeffs’ classroom is.

I could be good at helping others, because on our class walk to the field behind the Daniel’s Way fence, I saved a small bird from a broken habitat.

But maybe I don’t have to just be one thing. Maybe I can just be myself."
