School-mascot inspired themes are sometimes trite, but that is not the case with Phoenix. Using a linear arrow with feathered fletching in colors that correspond with the sections inside of the book, “basically a tribe” comes to life on a textured white matte cover that features a watercolor painting of a warrior headdress. Thin red lines – some straight and some squiggly – enhance the word “tribe,” adding to the theme elements found on the beautiful cover. Five spreads provide the full explanation for the theme of Phoenix. The copy explains “the basic elements, earth, water, air, fire eternally bind us together to basically create a tribe in our territory. We are the warriors.” Six dividers explain how the theme is connected to specific spreads within the sections. Each of these spreads feature photos that reinforce the concepts discussed and a table of contents.
