Slater

Hello,

I'm Mary Slater, CJE

Chicago Area Yearbook Representative

My Philosophy

As your local yearbook representative, I am committed to providing you with excellent service and support as you create your school's yearbook. Having been both a teacher and yearbook adviser, I truly understand what your yearbook adviser is faced with day after day, year after year. My advisers lean on me to teach, train, motivate and encourage their staffs and to help manage sales, budgets and marketing. I specialize in training and coaching advisers and staffs through the entire process, providing multiple workshops - both outside school and in the classroom.

Every day is a new challenge, but the key to our success is planning and working together to create a beautiful book that captures the spirit and energy of the year.

After more than 20 years in this role, my goal continues to be making your job easier! I love what I do and I'm excited to help you.

Do you know what CJE means?

I'm proud to be one of Walsworth's Certified Journalism Educators, or CJE for short.

Basically what that means is the Journalism Education Association (JEA) has certified my knowledge in the basics of journalism and media advising.

You can read more about the CJE here at the JEA website.

What People Are Saying...

I met Mary as a first-year teacher and yearbook adviser. At that time, she empathized with my struggles as a new teacher and has continued to have a keen awareness of what teachers need to produce excellent yearbooks, run an effective club, and manage finances on top of the everyday work of a school day. We feel extremely fortunate to be paired with Mary Slater and Walsworth from the beginning.

- Christopher Wendelin, Adviser, Amos Alonzo Stagg High School, Palos Hills, Illinois

Mary has provided me with direct customer support for the 10 years I have been advising two different schools’ yearbooks. Due to her superior customer service, but also the overall Walsworth experience with both software as well as support from the production facility in Missouri, I cannot speak more highly about the success we have experienced with Walsworth.

- Christine Torres, Adviser, Plainfield East High School, Plainfield, Illinois
