We’re back after a week off to rest and recharge over the Thanksgiving holiday! There was a whirlwind of activity here in the Yearbooks Blog right before our break last week, and we’ve got some more fun stuff to share.
While we were down in San Antonio for the JEA/NSPA Convention, I was able to catch up with some of the 75 Scholars winners on yearbook staff and ask them what the yearbook means to them and their friends.
With the theme for this year’s yearbook, the staff at Iowa Falls-Alden High School in Iowa Falls, Iowa, wanted students to recognize how fast the years fly by and remind them “to not blink or you’ll miss it and to preserve the memories by buying a yearbook.”
The video the staff submitted for Walsworth’s 2012 Video Contest is based on this year’s theme. It includes current pictures of this year’s seniors, compared with pictures from when they were younger.
With their entry in Walsworth’s 2012 Video Contest, the staff from Ilwaco High School in Ilwaco, Wash., shows you multiple uses for a yearbook.
I’m willing to bet you probably never thought of most of these while creating your book. Props to Ilwaco for their creativity, and a great sense of humor.
It’s day two of the JEA/NSPA Convention here in San Antonio. There was a ton of activity on the exhibit floor on Thursday and it’s continuing into today.
This morning, we decided to film a little video to show you some of the sights and sounds of the Walsworth booth.
The winners of the 75 Scholars program were treated to a celebratory pizza dinner on Thursday evening on the opening day of the JEA/NSPA Convention here in San Antonio.
After the students were given their 75 Scholars T-shirts, they were welcomed with a greeting from NSPA Executive Director Logan Aimone and Steve Blair, Walsworth’s Executive Vice President of Yearbook Sales. Then it was time for pizza and mingling with the scholarship winners from other schools.
As the exhibit floor opened this afternoon here in San Antonio, we were able to track down some of the 75 Scholars winners from Marshall High School (right here in San Antonio) and from Akins High School in Austin.
All awesome kids, and all very fired up to be here at the convention this week. You can hear what a few of them had to say in the video below.
Here’s a video from Waukesha West High School in Waukesha, Wis., that serves as a yearbook PSA of sorts, walking their customers through the yearbook ordering process.
Of course, as you’ll see, it’s not all serious instructions. There’s an obvious fun tone.
With their submission for Walsworth’s 2012 Video Contest, the yearbook staff from Tri-Central High School in Sharpsville, Ind., showed they’re getting ready for their upcoming Winter Yearbook Sale.
This commercial, which offers a preview of some of the photos that will appear in this year’s yearbook, is already playing on the school’s website.
They’ve got a lot of fun, new teachers this year at Blennerhassett Middle School in Parkersburg, W.V., which is what prompted the production of a video to introduce them all at open house and then in turn promote yearbook sales.
The yearbook staff’s pitch with the video has been, “Would you want to forget these people?”
All the students at Sherwood High School in Creighton, Mo., become like a tight-knit family during their years there. That was the message the yearbook staff wanted to express with their video for our 2012 Video Contest.
The inspiration was a parody of High School Musical, and as the staff described, “Whether you are a band member, football player, or drama student we are all working for a common goal. To survive high school. The yearbook will help us to remember that we were all in it together.”
