For National Yearbook Week, Walsworth ready to celebrate all things yearbook

Written by Evan Blackwell, CJE

That celebratory feeling is in the air – National Yearbook Week is only a few days away and Walsworth Yearbooks has been making party plans.

First let’s start with the back story in case you’re new to yearbook. In 1987, President Ronald Reagan declared the week of Oct. 4 each year as “National Yearbook Week.” That’s right, most holidays are a single day and yearbook gets a whole week.

This year, Walsworth will be celebrating National Yearbook Week from Oct. 2-6 and we want everyone joining in. Think of this as spirit week for yearbooks. Celebrate all week long on social media with us and also celebrate at school and in the classroom with food, drinks and yearbook specials. It’s the perfect week to spread awareness about yearbook and what makes it awesome.

But you probably want specifics for Walsworth’s party. Glad you asked. Check this out:

  • It’s not a party unless somebody is winning stuff, right? Well, we want to give stuff away. But we also want to hear your stories. Yearbook advisers – go to walsworthyearbooks.com/whyiyearbook and enter our Why I Yearbook drawing. Just fill out the form telling us what it is you love about teaching yearbook and you get a chance to win one of two fully stocked mini-fridges for your yearbook room. This drawing is open to yearbook advisers all across the country. We want to hear from everyone! You have until 3 p.m., Central on Friday, Oct. 6 to enter.
  • Each day we’ll be specifically celebrating a different aspect of yearbook that we love. Monday will be great design, Tuesday will be great photography, Wednesday great themes, Thursday is World Teachers’ Day… see the pattern. Watch our social media channels – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, even our new Snapchat page (where our handle is yearbookforever) – for videos and posts.
  • Also to watch for on social media all week long – memes. Lots of them. With a National Yearbook Week focus. And plenty of posts from all of you, showing us how you are celebrating the week, so we can share them with the world.

It’s all just a few days away. Let’s get the party started!
