Trainor honored to be named Adobe Education Leader

Brian Trainor, the yearbook adviser at Whittier Regional Vocational Technical School in Haverhill, Mass., steadfastly believes in preparing his students for their futures with a real-world approach to the classroom.
Part of that philosophy means preparing his students to pass Adobe Certification exams for Rich Media and Visual Communication, using Photoshop, Flash and other valuable tools in today’s marketplace.
Those same principles led Trainor to help organize a series of design workshops for advisers in his area, focused on teaching Adobe skills to teachers. It was during one of his workshop group’s visits to the Adobe facility in Waltham, Mass., that Trainor first discovered he might be considered for a significant honor from Adobe.
“They said, ‘You should be an Adobe Education Leader,’” said Trainor. “At the time, I had never heard of it. But it didn’t seem like the kind of distinction that could apply to me.”
Once nominated, Trainor submitted his resume and application materials to be reviewed and was invited to Florida to make a formal presentation with his own “spin on Adobe software.” The entire process took months, and eventually resulted in him being named an Education Leader earlier this year.
“It’s like a membership in a professional learning community,” said Trainor. “It’s a group of like-minded teachers who share information and resources.
As an Adobe Education Leader, Trainor will be a frequent speaker at workshops and will be expected to be a regular contributor of lessons to the Adobe Education Exchange website.
“You can go look at some of the (Education Leader) profiles, and it’s humbling. I don’t belong in that group,” said Trainor. “It’s an honor to be considered a part of this.”
