Showcase your yearbook during Scholastic Journalism Week!

Written by Evan Blackwell, CJE

The Journalism Education Association (JEA) has designated this week as Scholastic Journalism Week to celebrate and promote all the amazing benefits of scholastic journalism and all the wonderful work done by student publications across the country.

Walsworth Yearbooks loves Scholastic Journalism Week and we want all our yearbook schools to get involved! There’s all kinds of activities and ideas out there to help make 2017 Scholastic Journalism Week the best yet. Take a look:

  • Use the official hashtag #SJW2017 on all your social media accounts, and post images of your staff celebrating.
  • Hold an open house of your yearbook room or media lab. Give your school community a chance to get a closer look at what you do!
  • Invite a local media professional to come to school as a guest speaker.
  • Encourage your staffers to write about what being on the yearbook staff and being scholastic journalists means to them.

There are tons of additional awesome ideas from the folks that started this great event – JEA – over at their website.

Get involved! You work hard all year learning and teaching journalism. Now, it’s time to celebrate all that effort.
