Walsworth entries win in JEA/NSPA individual contests

Kansas City, Mo. (Nov. 18, 2008) – Several students representing yearbooks published by Walsworth were honored for their outstanding work in the individual contests at the JEA/NSPA Fall National High School Journalism Convention last weekend in St. Louis.

Three of the six entries that placed in the Design of the Year contest for yearbooks were from Walsworth schools, including the top two. Christine Smith from Arrowhead Christian Academy in Redlands, Calif., finished first, and Andrea Tudhope from Shawnee Mission East High School in Prairie Village, Kan., was second. Tanner Huffman from Wynne High School in Wynne, Ark., was selected Honorable Mention.

Students from Walsworth schools also placed in five of the six categories in the Picture of the Year contest. Cameron Birdsall from Shawnee Mission North High School in Overland Park, Kan., won the News Picture contest. Tyler Zoeller from Shawnee Mission North finished second in the Sports Reaction category, while Kevin Guizado from North was selected Honorable Mention in Feature Photos.

A photo from Hannah Brewer and Shawnee Mission East placed second in Environmental Portraits. Two students from Thousand Oaks High School in Thousand Oaks, Calif., saw their work honored. Annabel Naish finished third in Environmental Portraits and Michael Dixon was chosen Honorable Mention in Sports Action.

In other events, Cody Geib of Arrowhead Christian Academy was chosen Honorable Mention in the Feature Story category of the Story of the Year contest.
