“It’s Worth It” promotion now underway for Walsworth schools

Written by Marketing Staff

Kansas City, Mo. (Aug. 10, 2009) – Walsworth Publishing announced that the “It’s Worth It” promotion and contest – the company’s effort to encourage yearbook staffs into increasing their sales – is now officially underway for all of its customer schools.

The “It’s Worth It” contest will award three $1,000 cash prizes to the three Walsworth yearbook programs who show the highest increase in yearbooks sold, ad pages sold and yearbook options sold compared to last year. Beginning today, schools can enter to compete in all three of the categories, and any one school can potentially win all three $1,000 prizes.

Yearbook advisers at all Walsworth schools received an email today containing an “It’s Worth It” online enrollment form allowing them to enter. Within the next few weeks, all schools will also be notified by mail with contest registration details.

“We think this contest is a great way for us to help our schools make their yearbook programs become more successful,” said Alex Blackwell, Walsworth’s director of yearbook marketing. “We want the staffs to set ambitious sales goals, and be motivated to achieve them. We want them to be bigger and better than ever.”

Contest rules state the prize money must be invested back into the yearbook program, such as for a staff trip to a journalism workshop or convention, or to buy a camera for the staff.

The deadline to enter is Dec. 31, 2009, with sales for the year being tabulated through April 30, 2010.

The general theme surrounding the promotion of the “It’s Worth It” campaign is emphasizing the lasting value and traditions of the yearbook. In essence, the message yearbook staffs need to convey to their audience is that yearbooks are a fun product right now, but they will be irreplaceable for capturing school memories later.

“The long-term value of a yearbook is unique,” said Blackwell. “Yearbooks are more than just printed pages in a book. They’re a connection to a time you will always want to remember, and people appreciate the yearbook when they take them off the shelf years later.”

A special section within the Idea File blog on the new walsworthyearbooks.com website will be updated throughout the school year with tips and stories on how schools have increased their sales. There will also be monthly email updates on the contest.
