Kansas City, Mo. (May 17, 2012) – The Americas High School yearbook staff hosted its first yearbook signing party in 2011, and this year’s promises to be even better with the $1,500 Grand Prize from Walsworth Yearbooks’ Big Event promotion.
Americas High in El Paso, Texas – winner of the Big Event Grand Prize – is using the money to boost its second annual autograph party, now set for May 23 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria.
“From the signing party of last year to the signing party this year, the money will provide more entertainment and more goodies,” Cristina Flores, yearbook adviser, said. “We’re thankful that Walsworth had this promotion.”
Americas’ Big Event will include a photo booth, drinks and snacks, music and goodies for the first 100 students in the door along with Golden Ticket prizes. Students who find a Golden Ticket in their yearbook will win a prize valued at $25. In addition, the yearbook staff produced a fun video that they released on YouTube this week, promoting the party.
Getting the book signed is one of the most fun, unique things about yearbooks. The Big Event promotion, which ran from September through March, was designed to encourage schools to hold a yearbook signing party at the end of the year and make it one of the most anticipated events at their school.
Walsworth gave away prize packs each month to four schools – for a total of 28 schools – that entered into a drawing by filling out a short questionnaire at the company’s Big Event website. The prize pack was a kit of marketing materials to help the school generate excitement for their signing party, including T-shirts, posters, buttons, tickets, backstage passes and lanyards.
“For schools like us that are having trouble selling yearbooks, we hope the party will get kids to buy the yearbook and come to the party because that’s the catch – they needed to have bought a book to come,” Flores said.
