Walsworth Yearbooks to offer day of writing help on Oct. 9

Written by Evan Blackwell, CJE

Has your yearbook staff been looking for a little coaching on their headlines, captions or body copy? Maybe you’re working on a great story, but you’re struggling with the lead. If the answer is yes, help is on the way!

As part of its upcoming National Yearbook Week celebration, Walsworth Yearbooks will be spending the entire day on Tuesday, Oct. 9, offering free writing advice to any yearbook staff looking for a little help.

Get Your Copy Right Day will be just one part of Walsworth’s week-long schedule of online events surrounding National Yearbook Week, from Oct. 4-11.

For the Oct 9th 20 minute session… I would love to have one of your experts talk or show the kids how to write a good short story…… for sports, or an event that is specific and one that readers will want to read….

we struggle with this each year…. what is important and what isn’t…..

thanks…

I have the same issues. Teaching students to write well and succinctly. They also struggle with captions and titles.

We struggle with stories that do not editorialize. We also have a difficult time avoiding few, many, etc. Please help! Our yearbook class (all new students!) meets at 1:30 to 2:15 edt every afternoon. I hope we can meet with you during that time period.

My kids struggle with coming up with catchy headlines. It’s my first year here, but I can tell they also need help with making copy writing effective and succint at the same time. Our class meets from 9:46 to 10:30 a.m. (central time). Thank you!

This is my first year. Our school has traditionally relied on mostly pictures for our yearbook, but the students would like to begin including more text including stories and headlines. How can we make this move? We meet on October 9th from 12:25-1:10 and 2:30-3:10 CDT. Thanks!
