Walsworth Yearbooks preparing for 2014 Adviser Academy this summer in Kansas City

Overland Park, Kan. (May 15, 2014) – Walsworth Yearbooks announced that it will be hosting its 2014 Adviser Academy workshop this summer in Kansas City from July 11-14.

It will be the sixth year for the annual event, which will be held this year at the Sheraton Crown Center.

As in past years, the Academy will offer three days worth of valuable training for both new and experienced advisers – custom-made for their yearbook situation. Attendees can also take the optional plant tour or the Certified Journalism Education (CJE) exam on Friday, July 11. This year’s teaching will be based around Walsworth’s new version of the Yearbook Suite curriculum.

Two new instructors have joined the Adviser Academy staff for 2014. Renee Burke, MJE, from Boone High School in Orlando, Fla., and Lori Mortland from Calhoun High School in Hardin, Ill., will be this year’s Track 2 instructors for more experienced yearbook advisers. Walsworth yearbook representatives, and former advisers, Cheryl Franzmann, CJE, and Valerie Tanke, CJE, will be the Track 1 instructors for new yearbook advisers.

Adviser Academy 2014In addition, the Academy will have a variety of outstanding general session speakers including award-winning yearbook advisers Allie Staub from Westfield Middle School in Westfield, Ind., Jessica Young from Orange Glen High School in Escondido, Calif., and Walsworth journalism specialist Mike Taylor.

Other highlights of the 2014 Academy include:

  • An optional plant tour of Walsworth’s printing facilities in Brookfield and Marceline, Mo., is available on July 11
  • Advisers interested in taking the CJE exam from JEA will get the chance to do so on July 11
  • All attendees will be guests at an opening night reception and dinner at Milano Italian Dining, located in Kansas City’s Crown Center
  • On July 12, there will be an optional group outing to the Kansas City Royals game.
