Walsworth once again will be bringing excitement to JEA/NSPA San Francisco

Written by Evan Blackwell, CJE

The JEA/NSPA Spring National High School Journalism Convention kicks off this week at the Marriott Marquis in downtown San Francisco, and Walsworth Yearbooks is ready for a fun week in the Bay Area.

The convention begins on Thursday, when the exhibit hall opens. The Walsworth Yearbooks booth will be a hub of activity on Thursday and Friday.

  • Walsworth Journalism Specialist Mike Taylor, CJE, will be holding critiques with yearbook staffs in the Ask Mike station. Taylor will also be wandering the booth between sessions, recording his own Facebook Live talk show.
  • Walsworth Special Consultant Jim Jordan will be meeting with advisers and staffs in the Chat with Jim area to discuss any yearbook-related topic they would like.
  • Advisers and students can hang out, relax and find ideas (even take a seat in a comfy beanbag chair), by browsing through our collection of yearbooks in the book browsing area.
  • If you’re looking for fun, you can stop in our game room area and play with our giant Jenga and Connect Four games. Or head over to our button making station and choose from 15 different designs to make buttons for your staff.

Sounds like there will be a lot going on in the booth, but that’s not even close to everything. There’s also… free stuff!

The first 100 advisers who visit the booth will receive a $5 Starbucks gift card. And yearbook advisers who engage in a booth activity can fill out a card to enter a drawing to win one of two fully stocked mini-fridges for their classroom. Winners of the mini-fridge will be drawn and announced at 3 p.m. on Friday in the booth.

Sessions begin with the opening keynote on Thursday night, then continue on Friday and Saturday. Several sessions will feature speakers from Walsworth Yearbooks and can be found here.

One of the final events will take place on Saturday night with the JEA/NSPA Awards Ceremony. Winners of the 2017 Pacemakers will be among those announced. Twelve Walsworth Yearbooks schools were among those named Finalists. Be sure to check back on the Yearbooks Blog and Walsworth’s social media accounts to find the winners.
