Vance expects the unexpected in her role as Fulfillment Shift Lead

Written by Danielle Finch

For the rest of this year, Walsworth will be featuring an Employee Spotlight series on its websites as part of the company’s celebration of its 85th anniversary. Walsworth’s people are our most important resource and the Employee Spotlights will give you a chance to get to know them better.

Fulfillment Shift Lead – St. Joseph, Michigan

I am currently a Shift Lead at the Walsworth St. Joseph Fulfillment Center. In my 30 years of working here I have worked in the Mailing Deptartment, Shipping and Receiving, Bindery, Fulfillment and as a Finishing Supervisor.

In my position, every day can be a different experience. With the demands from individual customers, you never know what your tasks may consist of from day to day.

I actually started as a temp employee, just hoping to have work until another teaching position opened up. I started liking what I was doing and I’ve been here ever since. I started working here 30 years ago when it was Imperial Printing Company, then Journal Communications and now Walsworth.

What I like most about my job is interaction with my fellow employees. I’m a people person, and my fellow employees are some great people to work with! Working at Walsworth has taught me a lot about the print industry, of which I had no idea or interest before.

If I had a personalized coffee mug at work, it would say “Know Your Worth”

I am a single mom to two adult sons and a fur baby. I also am a granny of three.

Traveling and reading are my main hobbies. I’m also hooked on true crime podcasts and documentaries.

I am one of the Founding Members of the Benton Harbor Cultural Awareness Committee of Benton Harbor Michigan. We have had the pleasure of planning the Juneteenth Parade and celebrations for our city for the past five years. I am also a Citizen Representative for the Public Relations and Communications Board of my local city council.

My favorite memories at Walsworth are the picnics and holiday celebrations.
