Two Walsworth schools in the running for Obama graduation speech

Written by Evan Blackwell, CJE

Yearbook staffs from two Walsworth schools are extremely close to possibly getting the chance at covering some history this spring.

Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park, Kan., and Kalamazoo Central High School in Kalamazoo, Mich., are two of the six finalists in President Obama’s Race to the Top High School Commencement Challenge.

Online voting for the public has been taking place all week at the White House website, and continues through midnight Eastern time on Thursday night. The voting will narrow the field down to three schools, which will be revealed on Friday.

Each school produced student-generated videos, which can be viewed as part of their case for votes at the White House website.

The final winner will be announced on Tuesday, May 4.
