Surf’s up for the Student Life winner in Photo Contest

Written by Evan Blackwell, CJE

Walsworth’s 2013 Photo Contest received hundreds of entries for the Student Life category, showing all varieties of student life activity and personality. Determining a winner was not easy, because there were many worthy entries.

Congratulations to Jennifer Oetzell from Redondo Union High School in Redondo Beach, Calif., who submitted her beautiful surfing photo, which was the winner.

Here was Jennifer’s description: “Senior Conor Beatty hangs out on the sand at Redondo Beach. ‘Even though I am not making surfing a profession of choice in college, I plan on surfing forever no matter where I go or how old I get,’ Beatty said.”

For taking the top Student Life prize, Jennifer wins a $100 Visa gift card and a pizza party for the Redondo Union staff.

The best photos were chosen by Walsworth and the number of Likes on Facebook. Winners were selected by a committee of judges based on the following criteria: quality of photo (25%), appropriateness to category (10%), photography rules followed (25%), creativity demonstrated (15%) and viral nature as determined by the number of Likes (25%).
