Students at Walsworth schools dominate Adobe Design contest

Kansas City, Mo. (June 18, 2009) – Students at Walsworth Publishing Company customer schools earned three of the four top prizes and one-third of the honorable mentions in the 2009 Yearbook Design Contest by Adobe Systems Inc.
Students from Franklin High School in El Paso, Texas, earned most of the prizes, with 2009 graduate Sophia Robele taking the Grand Prize for her “In the light of God” spread. Robele plans to attend Northwestern University and major in communications. As the grand prize winner, she will receive a laptop computer with the latest InDesign Creative Suite software.
First Place went to John Bryant of St. Mark’s School of Texas in Dallas for his football spread. He will receive Adobe Creative Suite software.
Students from Walsworth schools also took the next two spots. Ian Baker, who just finished his sophomore year at Franklin, won second place for his forensics spread, while Andrea Tudhope, who just graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School in Prairie Village, Kan., was awarded third place for her Lancer Day Parade spread. Baker will receive Adobe Creative Suite software, and Tudhope earned a digital camera.
The main criteria for the contest is that all yearbook spreads submitted must have been designed using Adobe InDesign. The spreads were judged on the creative use of accepted design concepts to present the topic in a pleasing and captivating manner.
Of the 21 honorable mentions, eight went to students at Walsworth schools – six of them to Franklin High students.
“We hope this is a harbinger of good things to come,” said Jai Tanner, yearbook adviser at Franklin High.
