Strayer wins Pick 6 marketing contest iPad

Written by Evan Blackwell, CJE

Yearbook adviser Damian Gomm and the yearbook staff at Strayer Middle School in Quakertown, Pa., were the winners of a brand spanking new iPad Air in this year’s Walsworth Pick 6 marketing contest.

So just how did they win that new iPad (engraved with their name, no less)? They submitted a ton of entries touting all the unique marketing tactics they used this year. Here’s just a sampling:

  • Online photo trends – Gomm said that Strayer loves featuring online photo trends in the yearbook, so the staff had teachers photographed in several of this year’s fun photo trends – money facing, Pottering, Vadering – and then they posted the pics outside the library to advertise this year’s book.
  • Clock signs – Signs in classrooms right under the clocks that read, “It’s time to buy a yearbook… www.yearbookforever.com
  • Lollipops – The staff handed out lollipops with notes containing the yearbook’s price and sales date, plus this marketing message, “Let this lollipop be the only Dum-Dum. Get a Strayer yearbook now while the price is right.”

What marketing tactics has your yearbook staff used so far this year? Send them to us, and we’ll be happy to share them online. In the meantime, watch Damian Gromm open up Strayer’s new iPad in this video!
