Northwest High School gets back to its roots in Cover Spotlight

Written by Jamie Chambers

The latest yearbook to step into our Cover Spotlight comes from Northwest High School in Justin, Texas. Let’s take a closer look.

The cover of the 2017 Nor’Wester (seen above) adds a really cool natural element on the front of its cover. The theme “Texan Roots” is not only demonstrated by the root graphics printed in black on the Natural Kennett cover material (this material gives you the feeling of canvas in both look and texture), but also by a panel of actual wood that has been added to the cover.

The theme words, tree and roots were all created using a laser to brand the design onto an 1/8-inch-thick mahogany wood board. This board was then inserted into a laser cut area on the front of the cover and adhered to the endsheet on the reverse side.

All of this allows the merging of various rustic elements onto this unique cover.
