JEA names new executive director

(May 18, 2010) – The Journalism Education Association (JEA) announced on Monday that Kelly Furnas, currently the editorial adviser at Virginia Tech University, has accepted the position of JEA executive director, instructor/associate director of Student Publications at Kansas State University and adviser to the Royal Purple yearbook.

Furnas will begin with JEA on Aug. 1. He will be replacing current executive director Linda Puntney, who is retiring.

Furnas is a graduate of Kansas State, where he served as editor of the Collegian student newspaper. At Virginia Tech, he has been adviser to the newspaper, yearbook and all media. Furnas notably led his students through the coverage of the Virginia Tech campus shootings two years ago.
