Written by Marketing Staff

Two Walsworth customers, Bill Hankins, publications adviser at Oak Park High School, Kansas City, Mo., and Susan Massy, yearbook adviser at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School, Shawnee, Kan., have earned the prestigious Pioneer Award from the National Scholastic Press Association.

Six individuals nationwide received the NSPA Pioneer Award. The national award recognizes outstanding contributions to scholastic journalism, according to NSPA Associate Director Annie Christman.

Hankins advises his school’s newspaper, The Northmen’s Log, and the Cambia yearbook. Both publications are members of the NSPA Hall of Fame.

At her school, Massy advises The Northwest Passage school newspaper and the Lair yearbook. Both have consistently garnered top national awards such as the NSPA Pacemaker and the Columbia Scholastic Press Association Gold Crown award.

The Pioneer Awards were presented Nov. 15 at the joint JEA/NSPA National High School Journalism Convention in St. Louis.
