Entries from four Walsworth schools named Finalists in 2014 NSPA Picture of the Year contest

Overland Park, Kan. (Sept. 24, 2014) – Entries from four Walsworth Yearbooks schools have been named Finalists by the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) in its 2014 Picture of the Year contest.

Shannon Smith of the Crusader from Marian High School in Omaha, Neb., was named a Finalist in the Feature Picture category.

Carleigh Whitman of the Lair from Shawnee Mission Northwest High School in Shawnee, Kan., was named a Finalist in the Sports Action category for her photo from a tennis match.

Justin Edwardo of The Masterpiece from Bak Middle School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, Fla., was named a Finalist in the Junior High/Middle School category for his photo of two students working in science class.

Bak MS pictureAlejandra Velez of The Lion from McKinney High School in McKinney, Texas, was named a Finalist in the News Picture category. McKinney is a new Walsworth school for the 2014-15 school year.

NSPA’s annual Picture of the Year contest typically yields more than 1,000 entries, which are then narrowed down to 7-9 Finalists in six categories.

Winners will be announced on Nov. 8 at the JEA/NSPA Fall National High School Journalism Convention in Washington, D.C.
