Dear Diary from JEA/NSPA

Written by Lauren Allan

Today was definitely an interesting start to the convention.

We started out the trip by agreeing to sleep in until 1 p.m. Thursday morning, since we did not have tours until 1:30. We woke up at 6 a.m.. After killing a few hours just being lazy, my three roommates and I decided it was time for a Starbucks run. We were told at first that it was only a block away, then two. It ended up being six. No big deal.

We then enjoyed another few hours eating, talking and delaying our return trip to the hotel through the freezing rain and cold.

After a yummy Chipotle run, we finally left on our Presidential Tour. We saw Woodrow Wilson’s home, the Ford Theatre, (minus the theatre since it was closed…), Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, etc. It rained the whole time, but we made the best of it, and also made some friends.

Now, we are sitting in the lobby, having just eaten our fourth meal, pizza from Cafe Romeo’s. We just witnessed a group of semi-creepy boys, videotaping us. Lovely. However, a girl we didn’t know just saw that they were also taping her, and ran to chase them down. Perfect ending to a great day.

[By the way — If you’re enjoying the cold weather as much as we are, don’t fret. It’ll be warm on Sunday when we’re leaving.]
