Day 1 in Portland starts with an early, early trip

Whoa, it’s been a looonggg day! The seven of us and our adviser had to be at the airport by 6:30 for an 8:05 flight. (I don’t even get up that early for school.)

We had to transfer planes in Los Angeles but we weren’t there very long. When we were finally over Portland, it was crazy! I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much green in my life. Living in El Paso, all we ever see is brown. The Portland airport was HUGE!

Getting to our hotel was pretty cool. We had to take the MAX. We don’t have anything like that at home, so it was pretty fun being able to experience that. Our hotel is crazy. It’s a two story room. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room and a kitchen. I’ve never seen a hotel room this big, it’s amazing.

After we checked in, we took the MAX again and headed to Burgerville. We were all sooo hungryyyy. I have to say the food was pretty good. I was really impressed with how environmentally friendly the restaurant was. The cups, napkins and straws were all from recycled items. Even the trash cans were separated so that you could recycle.

When we finished eating we tried to head over to the zoo, but it was already closed so we just stayed and walked around in Washington Park. The veterans memorial was beautiful, everything about it was just breathtaking. We climbed a whole bunch of stairs, and when we got to the top, I can’t even explain the view. Mt. St. Helens looked huge even from far away.
Everything is so different here. Ha, even the air and water is different.

Tomorrow we’re getting to go on a tour at 10 a.m. I can’t wait to see even more of this city.
