New Adviser Training Part 1 (password: yearbook) – Tiffany Cavicchia and Jim Channell
New advisers will learn how to handle staff organization and deadlines, grading and curriculum, principles of layout and design, and budget/marketing to get started on the right foot for the first year of teaching yearbook.
10 a.m.
General Session: Welcome – Ken Schwartz

- How to Take Better Photos – Alex Wilson
Learn tips and tricks that your entire staff can use to easily improve your photos.
- Editorial Leadership Part 1 – Tiffany Kopcak, CJE
Send your editors to this session to learn how to lead their peers by establishing a plan for success. Students will discuss team-building, meeting deadlines, and motivating staff members to work together to meet goals.
11:15 a.m.-Noon (Breakouts – Choose from the choices below)
- Photo Editing Options – Photopea – Alex Wilson
Learn ways to edit your photos in different platforms, including Photopea.

Having trouble finding or developing your theme? Join us to brainstorm ideas and work with experts to find the perfect theme. **Schools that don’t need help with theme should use this time to work together.

- Basic Online Design Training Part 1 – Ken Schwartz/Jim Channell/Susie Gillam
Beginning yearbook students will learn to use basic tools to create spreads in the Online Design software.
- Basic InDesign Training Part 1 – Kristine Rodriguez/Lisa Horstkamp/Carolyn Henderson, CJE
Beginning yearbook students will learn to use basic tools to create spreads in InDesign.
- Advanced Design Part 1 – Building templates and theme pages – Tiffany Kopcak, CJE/Brooke Smith
Experienced students will be inspired by award-winning designs to develop templates, mods, and theme packages for their 2021 books.
