Boone yearbook editor wins FSPA award

Written by Evan Blackwell, CJE

Big shout out from the Yearbooks Blog to Matt Casler, a senior at Boone High School in Orlando, Florida, for being named Student Journalist of the Year by the Florida Scholastic Press Association (FSPA).

Casler is currently the editor-in-chief of Boone’s 2016 Legend yearbook, and was co-editor-in-chief of the 2015 Legend. The 2015 Legend has already been named a finalist for national honors from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association and the National Scholastic Press Association.

Each year, the FSPA awards the Student Journalist of the Year to recognize a senior who has done exceptional work during their time as a student journalist. The portfolio of work the applicants submit is reviewed and evaluated by Florida media professionals and journalism educators.

It’s already been a big year for the journalism program at Boone. Along with Casler’s honor, Boone yearbook adviser Renee Burke was recognized in January when the Journalism Education Association named her the 2015 Yearbook Adviser of the Year.
