Alchemist Staff Sells Patron Ads

Developing innovative fund-raising ideas is a challenge for almost every yearbook staff. The Alchemist staff at Concord Middle School, Concord, N.C., met that challenge by selling nearly $1,000 in patron ads for its 1998 yearbook.

Co-adviser Kelley Eng said the staff sent out letters to parents inviting them to become an annual patron for $25. Eng said the staff received about 40 responses and will be designing a spread to feature the patrons’ names.

“It worked really well,” Eng said. “We raised a good bit of money.”

The funds raised will help the staff in the production of the book, Eng said. She said the 1998 Alchemist, which has the theme “With Stars in Our Eyes,” will feature foil on the cover and will include a special-production mini-mag
