2016 Adviser Academy kicks off with high energy

Written by Evan Blackwell, CJE

More than 100 yearbook advisers from across the country packed into Monday morning’s opening session of the 2016 Walsworth Yearbooks Adviser Academy and were welcomed with high energy by Journalism Specialist Mike Taylor.

Taylor kicked off this year’s Academy, being held at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown, with an icebreaker that included beach balls bouncing around the ballroom and the crowd being broken into small groups to get to know each other.

After the initial icebreaker, Taylor introduced all of the Academy instructors and staff for the week.

Then Taylor moved on to a discussion of the 10 things great yearbooks should include, starting with theme. Taylor emphasized to the advisers that they need to love their school, and even in a national newsworthy year like this with a presidential election and a Summer Olympics, they need to find the story of the year in their school.
