Place the dominate photo, repeat the shape, contrast the shape, add additional photos, place captions, place the headline and copy block and, whew, you’re done.

erhaps when you were a child, filling in your first coloring book, your mother told you to stay inside the lines. That may be a standard for coloring books, but in yearbooks, following the standard, doing things the way they have always been done or, if you will, staying inside the lines, can stifle creativity and give your yearbook a dated, stale look. Experiment, open your mind to new ideas, new approaches, new looks.
For yearbook journalists, a primary objective is to tell the complete story of the year and infographics are an effective method of increasing in-depth coverage.
Maintaining a consistent level of quality year after year is the mark of a superior yearbook program. Two yearbooks printed by Walsworth Publishing Company were recently inducted into the National Scholastic Press Association Hall of Fame. These publications were honored for receiving an All American rating from the NSPA for 10 years in a row.
The collages of yearbooks past were created with photos, scissors and rubber cement and have, like the pun, acquired a low reputation.
