In the latest entry for “Why didn’t I think of that?” adviser Laquita Ward from Mountain Pine High School in Mountain Pine, Ark., sent in this great idea for a way to promote the yearbook and raise some funds.

“My first year as adviser was both fun and nerve-wracking as the staff and I tried to come up with ideas to raise money for yearbook.  Since our school is small, barely reaching 700 K-12, we knew we had to keep it affordable.

We decided to start a ‘Mr./Miss Yearbook’ contest.  There were four divisions: Pre K-3, grades 4-6, grades 7-9 and grades 10-12.  Each vote was 10 cents.  The boy and girl from each division with the most votes had their photos taken together.  We set aside a full page in the yearbook and each division winners’ photo is 1/4 page size.  The first year we made over $500!”
