Luckily I had really cool morning sessions. Loved Jennifer Seavey’s hands-on workshop with profile writing because it engaged us to actually do the activity while meeting new people and it woke us all up to start off a new day.

I must say Mark Murray’s photography presentation inspired me to create an amazing photo portfolio. I already can’t wait for tomorrow. Loved Coral Glades High School’s newspaper, The Prowl, and I can’t wait to get back to school to share layout ideas with the entire newspaper staff.

Day 1 at CSPA ended with a new mindset about the concept of journalism and possibilities.

My last night at NASSP reminded me how fortunate Walsworth is to help advisers and students create yearbooks. It allows us the opportunity to work with people whose purpose every day is to make a difference in the lives of our children.
I went to dinner Saturday night with principals from West Virginia, Texas and Missouri. I don’t know what was more enjoyable – the fantastic meal or the great company. The conversation was lively, insightful and encouraging.

With more than 200 exhibits lining the aisles at NASSP in Phoenix, principals had plenty of shopping opportunities when not attending sessions. Companies, schools and other organizations offered solutions to virtually every educational need – with the possible exception of how to stop deep budget cuts.
If you needed sport equipment or scoreboards, you could find a selection. Looking for a leadership skills program? Several choices were available. Most were highly specialized with their products. Others, like Jumbo Jack’s Cookbooks and Student Planners, were more diversified.

More than 2,000 administrators arrived in Phoenix to attend the National Association of Secondary School Principals Annual (NASSP) Convention, “Unleash the Extraordinary,” planned this year to focus on the importance of skilled leadership.
The challenge facing principals today, according to Steven Pophkal, NASSP president, require school leaders to “see each boy and girl as a unique individual, develop their respective strengths and to unleash the extraordinary in each child.”

Walsworth hosted a dozen yearbook advisers in Kansas City last week for a new event called the Show-Me Seminar.
During the two-day seminar, the advisers toured the Walsworth printing facilities in Marceline and Brookfield, Mo., and also attended sessions on marketing, InDesign, Photoshop and staff motivation.

1:00 a.m. I’m still up, hunched over a piece of paper with a blue-and-orange booklet at my side. The paper is covered in random words and scratch-outs, and the writing on it changes abruptly from pencil to blue pen about halfway through. The scene would be familiar, almost exactly the same as every other night I’ve stayed up into the wee hours doing homework, except for a few small details.
