Thanks to Walsworth, your yearbook staff has a chance to win an iPad 2 if they’re coming to New York City next week for CSPA’s Spring Convention.

Walsworth will be conducting a Scavenger Hunt, comprised of eight locations around the Columbia University campus and NYC. Staffs who visit five of them and take pictures, then bring the images back to the Walsworth booth and show them to a Walsworth rep can get entered into the iPad contest.

Loyola University in New Orleans is celebrating its 100th year in existence in 2012, and recently the university launched a special centennial website for the occasion.

The centennial website is full of memories from Loyola’s past 100 years, and the site uses images that were gathered from past editions of the university’s Wolf yearbook.

This year is the 75th anniversary for Walsworth Publishing, and last week the company officially announced it will be celebrating those 75 years throughout 2012.

In the past two weeks, New York Knicks basketball player Jeremy Lin has become a sensation. Undrafted out of Harvard, Lin stepped into the New York lineup and is scoring 27 points a game as a starter.

Lin, one of the few Asian-American players in NBA history, has been viewed as a classic underdog story and has touched off “Linsanity” among basketball fans and New Yorkers.

Post image for CSPA gives Crown Finalists a chance to show off their work

In a little more than a month, the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) will name the 2011 Gold and Silver Crown Award winners at their annual spring convention in New York City on March 16.

This year, more than 60 high school and middle school yearbooks were named Crown Award Finalists and CSPA invited all the staffs to submit two spreads of their best work to show off in a new publication called In Their Voices.

Post image for Rim High spoofs popular commercial with their yearbook video

The latest yearbook video to get showcased here in the Yearbooks Blog comes from Rim of the World High School in Lake Arrowhead, Calif.

The video is a take-off of the funny series of commercials done over the last couple years for the Discover card, in which celebrities have trouble communicating over the phone about a charge mix-up. Putting a yearbook spin on a popular series of ads is one fun direction to go with your yearbook video.

James Ducat, the yearbook adviser at Walsworth customer school Beaumont High School in Beaumont, Calif., was recently honored as one of 10 regional finalists by the California League of High Schools in its 2011 High School Educator of the Year contest.

After being selected for the honor, Ducat was featured in a nice article by the local newspaper, The Press-Enterprise.
