Jordan Westgate joined the Army before his senior year at Merrimack Valley High School in New Hampshire, and will be shipped out for duty shortly after graduation. However, when he attempted to submit an image for his senior yearbook portrait of himself in uniform, the yearbook staff declined to use the photo citing rules about standard, formal senior pictures.

Westgate, his family and many folks in the local community haven’t been too amused.

The issues at Merrimack Valley High involving Westgate follow right on the heels of the highly-publicized case already this year in Mississippi involving senior Ceara Sturgis, who wanted to wear a tuxedo in her senior portrait but was denied by the school and school district.

Which all raises plenty of interesting discussion about what students should be able to wear in their yearbook portraits and what lines should be drawn.
